Immaculate Heart of Mary had their Sports day
on Tuesday. Participating in the three-legged race are students from Mrs.
George's grade one class (L-R) Summer Ingram and Alyssa Taylor.
The grade 7 to Level I field trip to Bonne Bay Pond was
enjoyed by everyone! We want to thank Mr. Gillard and Mr. Hancock who
accompanied the group.
On Monday, our theme was black and yellow in support of our Elementary
Spelling Bee held that same morning. Congratulations to the following winners
of the Spelling Bee: Tyra Ruth (grade 4), Alex Williams (grade 5), and Hannah
Sparkes (grade 6). We want to thank all the students who participated in this
event; you did an excellent job.
On Monday evening, the grades five to seven classes hosted a
French Café. We want to thank Ms.
Bennett and Mrs. King for organizing this special event. We also want to thank
Ms. Morrall who helped out on Monday evening. Many thanks to our parents for
their support! We give a big thank you to the following students who played
special roles in our French Café: Abby Companion and Nicole Keeping, who did the welcoming, and Brooklynn
Companion, Hailey Colbourne, MacKenzie Brothers, Katerina Hamann, Olivia Park,
Kiya Morrissey, and Alex Williams, who were performers. Thanks to all students
who worked hard in preparing for the Café.
On Tuesday morning, we had our school wide breakfast.
Everyone really enjoyed the pancakes, especially the happy face chocolate chip
ones! : ) Tuesday was our hat and shades day which was fitting for the Sports
Day we had that afternoon at Prince Edward Park. Everyone had a lot of fun and
the weather was perfect for the event.
We had a wonderful Family Mass on Wednesday, and we would
like to thank all the families who took part in this special time. We had a
great showing. Also we want to thank our singers and readers; you did a
beautiful job! Immediately following mass, we had our yearend awards assembly
in the school gymnasium. Congratulations to all award recipients. We want to
thank the band students from grades 5 through 9, and Mrs. McHugh, for their
fantastic performance! We also want to say “Thank you!” once again to our
families for your wonderful support and for sharing our last day of the
2011-2012 school year with us. Students were given their reports and dismissed
at lunch time.
On Thursday morning we had our volunteer breakfast. We want
to thank Coleman’s for their catering of this event. We also want to thank all
our volunteers for their dedication and support.
Today is our last staff day at school. We want to thank all
of our staff for all your hard work and devotion, and we want to wish you a
safe and enjoyable summer!
Stars Of The Week |
Students have been entering a Problem of the Week Math
contest throughout the year. Their names went in for a draw for prizes for
every math problem they attempted. Two winners were drawn from Junior High and
two from Elementary. The winners of a Subway Card are: Hailey Colbourne (grade
5), Douglas MacKenzie (grade 6), Jenna Yetman (grade 7), and Claire Reynolds
(grade 8). Congratulations to all!
Congratulations to all participants in the Top Your Total Recycling
School Contest. As a result of your efforts, Immaculate Heart of Mary has been
awarded the Silver Prize of $2,000 for the western region! We collected a total
of 66, 649 used beverage containers in just one month! In doing so, we
collected the highest volume of units in the western region of the province.
Not only has our school raised $10, 064.90 and diverted 66,649 used beverage
containers, but also we have saved energy and natural resources, and reduced
carbon emissions by 3, 719kg (that’s equal to planting 3, 381 trees)! Wow!
Congratulations once again to all of our Award Recipients! You’ve all done an amazing job!
Summer Holidays! Have a safe and fun summer everyone! See you in September!
