Lion's Roar - Friday, October 1, 2010

Today is medical theme day for the Western Memorial Hospital Radiothon. Everyone looks great all dressed up! Our Terry Fox walk was postponed yesterday because of all the rain this week. We look forward to our walk in early October.

Student Leadership Council Elections are over. Our Co-Presidents are Carla Du Toit and Sarah Yetman, Vice-President is Sarah Keeping, Secretary is Claire Reynolds and Primary Representative is Jenna Yetman. The class representative for grade 5 is Maria Reynolds and grade 6 is Nicole Keeping. We hope to have all the class representatives chosen before our first meeting.

Running club started this week. The running club meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school to practice.

Thank you to all the parents and teachers who have been helping with the breakfast program in the morning and at lunch time this week.

The grade 3 and 4 students have decided to raise money for a SMART board for their classroom. They started with a bake sale on Wednesday and they raised almost $200!! The cookies, cupcakes and fruit kabobs were yummy. More plans are already being made for more fundraisers.

On Monday public health nurse Becky Newton did a hand washing presentation with the Kindergarten classes.

All the kids in soccer intramurals are having lots of fun!

Stars of the Week

Patrick Davis and Andrew Dolomount have joined the city of Corner Brook Community Band. They play saxophone.

Congratulations to Sarah Yetman who was promoted to ALC last week at Air Cadets.

Class News

The Junior Kindergarten classes are learning about the letter “c” and the number 2. They are doing Thanksgiving crafts, and science activities.

The Kindergarten class is learning about living animals in science and working on the letter “l”.

The French Immersion Kindergarten class is learning about the importance of family and their role in their family. In math they are learning about patterning. They have been working on the letter “I”.

The grade one class is learning how to count to 20. They are going on a nutrition tour to Colemans very soon.

The grade two class is playing lots of fun math games and doing fall crafts in art.

The grade three and four class is making websites about a country. They are reading Storyworks magazine and practicing handwriting in language. They would like to thank Mr. Rob Ryan for presenting “bones” to them this week.

The grade five and six class is writing about memories in language arts and their teaching is reading “How Come the Best Clues are Always in the Garbage” to them.

The junior high class is busy with tests and quizzes. In gym class they are making their own games. In Enrichment they learned about Terry Fox and the Marathon of Hope.

Coming Up

Vegetable orders are due today. They will be delivered to the school on October 5.

The Scholastic Book Fair is on October 19 and 20.
