Lion's Roar - Friday, November 5, 2010

Donation of computers made to our school by Computers for Schools. Our school received 5 computers last week. Front (L-R): Abigail Companion and Aaron Hancock.

On Tuesday there was a prayer service for All Saints Day with the prayer group, several volunteers and Mrs. Coleman. Thank you to celebrating with us.

Everyone enjoyed our Haunted House and Halloween parties on Friday.

Operation Christmas child has started. The grade one class is collecting items to pack in shoeboxes for children in poor countries. They would like our students to bring in stuff like: small dolls, pencils, toothbrushes, hairbrushes or clips, hard candy, socks, etc.

The junior high class is raising money for their trip to St. John’s for the Intermediate Skills Challenge. They are raking leaves on Saturday. If you need your lawn raked give them a call!

We are still collecting used cell phones. Many students and staff have donated already. Thank you!

The Junior Kindergarten classes held a class fundraiser last week to help purchase supplies for their classrooms. It was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who bought things.

Running club ended this week. Thank you to Ms. Dutton and all our runners who represented our school at different fun runs.

Stars of the Week

Congratulations to the winners of the Halloween costume contest last Friday. The winners were: Heather Cooper, Summer Ingram, Will Drover, Megan Williams, Chole Colbourne, Tyra Ruth, Sarah Campbell, Carla du Toit, and Brian MacKenzie.

Alex Williams represented our school at a fun run at Xavier Junior High in Deer Lake last Thursday. Way to go!!

Class News

The Junior Kindergarten classes are working on Remembrance Day crafts and activities.

The Kindergarten class is learning about numbers in math. Also, they are learning the letter “t”.

The French Immersion Kindergarten class is beginning to learn the names of communities. The students are learning how people contribute to our city. Today, Constable Edwards is visiting their class to talk about his work.

The grade one class is learning about the parables Jesus told in Religion. In language arts they are writing class stories.

The grade two class is starting to learn how to handwrite. They are working very hard at it!

The grade three and four class watched the movie “Wall-e” to complete their unit about our environment. They are starting a unit on nutrition. They are learning their three times tables in math and learning about habitats in science. Their websites on world countries are nearly complete.

The grade five and six class is working on Remembrance Day Essays and learning about the format of an essay. They wrote rock stories in religion class. In math they are learning about rounding numbers.

The junior high class are raising money for their big trip at the end of this month. They are busy planning the Remembrance Day assembly for the school.

Coming Up

There will be a girls basketball practice on Saturday morning from 10-12.

Our Remembrance Day Service is on Tuesday, November 9th at 10:35 am.

There is a school wide breakfast on Wednesday, November 10th. There is no school on November 11th or 12th.

The RNC and the Corner Brook Crime Prevention Committee are having a public information session on Internet Safety / Internet Luring for all parents and members of the public. This is on Wednesday, Nov. 17th at Presentation Junior High.

The mini-reporters are busy collecting items for Operation Christmas Child.
