Last Friday was Apple Day for the Kids Eat Smart Program. We had lots of food with apples in it including Mrs. George’s apple muffins and apple parfaits. There were lots of apple prizes and stickers for everyone. Thank you to Mrs. Hodder, Mrs. George and Mrs. McCarthy for helping serve and prepare breakfast.
Also last Friday a team of 20 students from grades 3 to 6 participated in Snow West Mini Olympics. They had a lot of fun running a snowshoe relay, running an obstacle course, building a snow sculpture and toboggan racing. The team won an award for the Best Snow Sculpture and the Overall Winning Team. Good job everyone! Thank you to Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Sheppard, Mrs. McCarthy and Ms. Dutton for driving the team to Marble and coaching them. Mrs. King and Ms. Bennett had a BBQ at Marble and raised $178 for our playground project. Thank you Snow West for organizing a great day.
Last week our school held a book fair. It was a great success! Thank you to Ms. Bennett, Mrs. McCarthy and all the teachers who helped with the fair! Our school also received $500 in books donated by the local Rotary club and we will receive a $1,000 certificate from our book fair to use for our school.
Mr. Kennedy, Mrs. Stevenson and volunteers are hard at work putting our library back together. We look forward to reading in the library again!
On Wednesday there was a parent information session for Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students for September 2011. Thank you to all the parents and staff who attended.
Thomas Bradbury a kindergarten student in our school, created a movie called Thomas the Dragon and His Princess. He held a film showing in our gym to raise money for the playground project. Thanks, Thomas!
Our school was the recipient of a random act of kindness this week. Thank you to Diane Parsons, Sherry Ellsworth and Debbie Taylor Chaulk who are members of the Women’s Ministries for the Westside Tabernacle who brought us a basket of treats and a thank you note for all we do.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to Nicola and Carla du Toit who participated in the Marble Cup last weekend. The Marble Mountain racing team won the Marble Cup.
Congratulations to Kaden Rodrigues and his team “Team Rascal” who won a trophy last weekend at the Blow Me Down Loppet. His team skied a total of 1400 kms! Kaden skied 15 kms himself.
Congratulations to Simon Boitsefski who received a medal while on a cruise for singing his ABC’s in French. Bien Fait!
Class News
The junior kindergarten classes are starting learning about healthy eating and spring activities. The Public Health nurses came in and talked to them about washing their hands.
The kindergarten French Immersion is continuing to learn about the different types of transportation in French and is printing the letter “p”.
The kindergarten English class is working on Canada’s Food Guide and word families.
The grade one class is sorting 2D shapes. They did special activities in their class for Lent.
The grade two class almost caught a leprechaun last week. They had a liquid race to see which liquid went faster.
The grade three and four class is excited that the Junior High class is doing activities with them in gym today. They are holding debates on school topics in social studies. They are finishing their snowman paintings in art and are starting novel studies in language arts.
The grade five and six is going to Marble today for the school skiing program. They are almost finished their novel study on Bridge to Terabithia. They are doing a project with a group of senior citizens. This week they are having tea together and discussing how this activity was an important social event.
The junior high class made mini-pizzas this week in Enrichment and watched a video about how the Rotary Club built a school in Afghanistan. They are doing science experiments in science class.
Coming Up
March 26th is Earth Hour. We will be turning off the lights to save on energy and keep our planet healthy.
Next week is Multiculturalism Week.
The Rotary-Read-A-Long is March 30th.
Our school is hosting an auction for the Playground on April 16th at the Legion . It is called “Swing into Spring”. There will be lots to bid on and local entertainment. Tickets are $5 and there will be a door prize of $200 in gas.
Registration for JK to Level 1 is open. There will be a French Immersion program in grade kindergarten and grade 1. Our JK and Kindergarten program is full day.
