Our Christmas Concert will be held on Dec. 13th. More details to follow. Students and staff of Immaculate Heart of Mary School are getting excited for Christmas. They are preparing for tomorrow’s Santa Clause Parade.
We would like to thank Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. English, Mrs.
Dicks and Ms. Crocker for doing a fundraiser for the Shepherd’s Fund last
Saturday. They raised $310.00 and would like to thank the families who
participated.
Congratulations are extended to Gina Spencer for having
scored the highest mark in Atlantic Canada on the Royal Conservatory exam. Gina
and Mr. Graham travelled to Halifax over the weekend where Gina was presented
with her medal.
Congratulations are extended to Liam Dawe, who won a bronze
medal and to Noah Evans who won a gold medal at a Karate tournament held in
Corner Brook.
Congratulations are extended to Brandon Brake, Carter
Bromley, Will Brothers, Samuel Buckle, Gavin Doman, Jakson Ganz, Alexie Genest,
Ryan Lombard, Jack Ryan, Riley Wilton and Cohen Vardy who won a medal at a hockey
tournament over the weekend in Deer Lake.
Congratulations are extended to Nathan Anderson, Hailey
Colbourne, Brooklynn Companion, Mira Ismail, Sara Ismail, Douglas MacKenzie,
Zubia Mahmood and Alex Williams who finished third in the Robot Category and
who also finished third in the overall category for First League Lego Robotics
at the Skills Challenge held in Mount Pearl over the weekend. They competed
against 32 other teams. Congratulations are extended to Hajra Ahmad and Claire
Reynolds who placed third in the Wind Turbine Category. Mackenzie Brothers and
Maria Reynolds did a great job in the Videography Division as did Hannah
Sparkes in the public speaking, and to Luan Dias, Matthew Simoes Vicete and
Gabrielli Dasilva who were team mentors. Congratulations to all participants as
well as teacher sponsors Mr. Gillard, Mr. Hancock and Ms. Meade. The Enrichment
Team would like to thank the parents and grandparents who helped with the
transportation. They would also like to thank everyone who supported the Lia
Sophia Jewellery Fundraiser which finished on Wednesday and was in aid of the
trip.
We would also like to thank 7 nursing students who finished
their clinical in the J.K. Program on Wednesday. Thank you Christine Atkinson,
Philip March, Erin Noseworthy, Cheryl Thorne, Cherise Flynn, Sarah Mercier, and
Ryan Rose.
Our school choir has been invited to sing at the Tree
Lighting Ceremony on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Remembrance Day Square.
Our school will have a float in the Santa Clause Parade. Students
are asked to be at the Pepsi Center by 4:30 p.m. Please dress warmly and do not
forget your Santa’s hat. We would like to thank Conway’s Trucking for supplying
the truck.
We would like to welcome Mme. Ryan to our school. She is
teaching in the French Immersion Program. Ms. Dwyer finishes her replacement
position in our Kindergarten English classroom today as Ms. Hodder will return
on Monday. We would like to extend best wishes Ms. Dwyer and we would like to
welcome back Mrs. Hodder.
Two new Smart Boards have arrived. One will be installed in
Miss Park’s room and the other in Mme. Mondoux’s classroom.
Class News
The Junior Kindergarten: The nursing students left yesterday
and will be missed! The students are learning about numbers, doing Christmas
activities, and learning their new song for the Christmas Concert.
Ms. Dwyer’s Kindergarten class: This week the students are
learning about the letter M. They are still learning about animals in Science
and are learning about rules in Social Studies. Ms. Dwyer is very sad this is
her last week at I.H.M.S. and wishes all of her students the best!
Mme. Perez-Diaz’s French Immersion Kindergarten class: In
Health, these students are learning about the 5 Senses. They are also learning
about animals and practicing numbers up to 10.
Mme. Mondoux Grade One and Two French Immersion class: In
Science the students are learning about animals. In health they are learning
about nutritious meals and continuing to learn their Christmas play.
Mrs. George’s Grade One English class: The Grade Ones would
like to thank everyone for the donations for Operation Christmas Child. This
year they filled 55 boxes, which beat last year’s number!
Ms. Park’s Grade Two class: The Grade Twos are excited to
announce they received $200.00 towards books for their classroom. In Science
they are learning about water and air. In Math they have started a new chapter called Data
Analysis.
Ms. Payne’s Grade Three and Four class: The students are finishing their fitness
testing. They just finished a unit in Social Studies . They are learning about
Jake the Puffin.
Ms. Neary’s Grade Five and Six class: The Grade 5’s and 6’s
are getting excited about getting on the school float this weekend. They are
having fun writing Christmas stories and preparing in band for the Christmas
Concert.
Mr. Hancock’s Junior High and Level One class: The students
are happy to be back. They had an awesome time in St. John’s. They enjoyed
taking part in the Skills Challenge and really liked all the fun extra activities
they got to do. They would like to thank their teachers for making it all
possible.
