Mrs. George's Grade 1 Class lit the first candle for Advent. Matthew Birmingham was Joseph and Keira Clarke was Mary. Kira McCarthy carried the cross and Jorja Perrett lit the candle.
On Wednesday students and staff of Immaculate Heart of Mary School enjoyed a visit from Santa Clause. All classrooms were given the opportunity to have their pictures done with the friendly, jolly fellow. Thanks Santa for coming and making our day!
We would like to thank Mr. Graham and our school choir
members who sang at the Down Town Business Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday.
Darcy Brake lit the Christmas tree.
Many thanks are sent to Mrs. George, Miss Park, Mr. Gillard
and the many students who helped with the Christmas Float. It was a great job!
Thank-you to Conway’s Towing for letting us use their flatbed and thank-you to
HVP for the use of their garage for decorating. Many thanks to Mrs. Woodford
for supplying the hot chocolate!
We would like to congratulate the following students who
placed in the Remembrance Day Contests. In the Kindergarten Colour Poster
Contest, Kate Murphy placed 1st, Reegan Curtis 2nd,
Jasmine Batstone 3rd, and Sophie Simms 4th. In Grade 1,
Reyd Ward 2nd place. In Grade 2, Heather Cooper 3rd
place. In Grade 5, Gina Spencer 1st place in the Junior Essay. In
Grade 6, Brooklynn Companion 2nd place in the Intermediate Poem. In
Grade 8, William Goodridge 3rd place in the Intermediate Essay. In
Grade 10 Senior Essay, Matheus Vicente 2nd, Gabrielle ds Silva 3rd,
and Luan Dias 4th place.
On Thursday we had students from Grade 6 to 9 showcase their
Skill Challenge projects for the whole school. Great Job!
From Dec.1st-14th our school will be
collecting items for Stocking for Seniors. As per the memo.
From Dec.1st-19th our school will be
collecting toys for the Toy Drive and non-perishable food items for the Food
Drive.
This Saturday we will be holding our Annual Tree Trimming at
2:00p.m. in our gym. New families are asked to bring a decoration to place on
the tree.
We would like to welcome back Kindergarten teacher, Mrs.
Hodder!
Congratulations are extended to Colin Sheppard on the birth
of his new baby brother!
The Christmas Concert will be held on December 13th
at 7:00p.m. in our gym. The theme is “When a Child is Born.” The cost is $5.00.
Class News
The Junior Kindergarten: The J.K. students are making their
Christmas wish list, learning numbers, and learning to print their name!
Mrs. Hodder’s English Kindergarten class: This week, Mrs.
Hodder’s class is learning about the letter K and learning their Christmas poem
for the concert.
Mme. Perez-Diaz’s French Immersion Kindergarten class: These
students are learning “Jingle Bells” in French for the Christmas concert. In
Social Studies they are learning about safety precautions. On Tuesday they
learned about Advent and made Advent wreaths. Congratulations to Sophie Simms
who won 4th place in the Remembrance Day Poster Contest.
Mme. Mondoux Grade One and Two French Immersion class: This week the grade one and two class are
practicing French Christmas carols for the play next week.
Mrs. George’s Grade One English class: These students are writing
friendly letters to Santa this week. They are doing subtraction stories in
Math. They are starting some Christmas crafts too!
Ms. Park’s Grade Two class: They grade twos are really
excited to announce they have a new Smart Board in their classroom! In Science,
they are experimenting with what makes water move into the air. In Math they
are learning about concrete graphs.
Ms. Payne’s Grade Three and Four class: Students are busy
practicing for the Christmas concert. Parents are kindly asked to make sure
their child has the outfit required for concert. There will be a Math test this
coming Tuesday, December 11th. Ms. Payne’s class is enjoying the
story “Elf on the Shelf.”
Ms. Neary’s Grade Five and Six class: The Grade 5’s and 6’s
are working hard on their Christmas concert pieces in Band. They would like to
congratulate Gina Spencer and Brooklynn Companion for coming 1st and
2nd in the Remembrance Day essay/poetry contest.
Mr. Hancock’s Junior High and Level One class: The Grade 7’s
are having a Social Studies test next week. On Wednesday the Grade 6 to Level
One presented their Skills Challenge topics.
