The
students and staff of Immaculate Heart of Mary School would like to welcome
everyone back to school. We would also like to wish everyone a very happy New
Year!
We would
like to extend a warm welcome to our 4 new students: Ava Doman (Junior Kdgt.),
Charlotte Mercier (Kdgt. French Immersion), Isabelle Mercier (Grade 1 French
Immersion), and Emma Doman (Grade 4).
Before
the Christmas holidays, some of our students sponsored a bake sale to raise
money to purchase chickens for Christmas dinner for people in Kenya. They
donated their money to Hailey Kawaja who started the project.
On the
last day of school before holidays, the Student Council hosted a Variety Show
which was a tremendous success. Many thanks to all who participated! The
Student Council made a gift for every teacher and presented it to them during
the Variety Show. The teachers would like to thank the student council for
their beautiful and thoughtful gifts.
Beginning
on Monday, we will be having a penny drive in aid of the Greenhouse Project.
Next
week the Public Health nurse will be doing sessions with the Grade 2, 4, 5 and
6 students.
Friday, January 18th Grade 7- Level 1 students will begin their Mid
Term exams. A schedule and guidelines were sent to our homes the middle of
December.

Class News
The
Junior Kindergarten: This week the students discussed winter and their favorite
winter toys.
Mrs.
Hodder’s English Kindergarten class: These students enjoyed learning about the
letter O this week. They also enjoyed learning about winter and making winter
crafts.
Mme.
Perez-Diaz’s French Immersion Kindergarten class: These students are learning
about the letter J. They are also learning about rhyming sounds in French, and
texture in Science (soft and rough).
Mme.
Mondoux Grade One and Two French Immersion class: In Grade 1 the students are
learning to add while playing games and in Grade 2 the students are learning to
read with rhyming words. These students had an interesting week exploring parts
of the eye in Science, learning addition and subtraction in Math and discussing
feelings in Health.
Mrs.
George’s Grade One English class: In Grade 1 the students are writing about New
Years’ resolutions. They are learning about subtraction stories in Math. They
are really excited to have Sadie MacDonnell’s mom who is an eye doctor to talk
to them about taking care of their eyes.
Ms.
Park’s Grade Two class: This week the students had their Show & Tell,
learning about water in Science and wrote New Year’s resolutions.
Ms.
Payne’s Grade Three and Four class: In Grade 3/4 the students are excited for
their Show& Tell this week! They are also learning about building
structures in Science and will get the opportunity to prepare their own
buildings/ bridges made from Popsicle sticks. They look forward to going skiing
in the upcoming weeks.
Ms.
Neary’s Grade Five and Six class: The Grade 5/6 class learned about storylines
this week and had fun creating a class story of their own using new Apple Inc.
technology.
Mr.
Hancock’s Junior High and Level One class: These students are preparing for
their upcoming exams and getting ready for the upcoming music festival.
