This has
been a great week of school. Students and staff of Immaculate Heart of Mary
School have been working hard writing exams and learning new things.
We would
like to extend best wishes to Gabrielli Barbosa Da Silva, Matheus De Souza
Simoes Vicente and Luan Marcolio Dias who will be returning to Brazil on
Sunday. They were a wonderful addition to our school and we are very sad to see
them leave.
We would
like to extend a thank you to Mrs.Coleman for arranging Father Roaches visit to
our school. Everyone really enjoyed his magic tricks.
We would
like to welcome Ms. Stacy MacDonald to our I.H.M.S. staff. Ms. MacDonald is
doing a replacement position in our office.
Many of
our teachers are implementing Mathletics in their classes to enrich the
provincial curriculum. Our classes are enjoying immensely this interactive way
of learning Math.
We would
like to congratulate Isaac Buckingham whose team won a gold medal at the Novice
I invitational Hockey Tournament this past weekend. Isaac had two goals and an
assist. He was also the winner of the hockey stick autographed by Daniel
Cleary.
Best of
luck to; Caylie Blake, Anna Brake, and Olivia Park who will participate in the
Divisional Figure Skating Championship this weekend in Gander.
The
Enrichment group had a wonderful time at Marble Mountain on Wednesday
afternoon, skiing and snowboarding. Thank you Mr. Gillard for organizing this
activity.
The
Mid-Term exams concluded today.
There
will be a Grade 6 girls’ basketball practice on Sunday at 5:00p.m. This
practice is open to girls from grade 3 to 6.
Our
Penny Drive has been extended. Please do not forget to keep the pennies
“rolling in.”
Class News
The
Junior Kindergarten: These students are having a fun week exploring winter
activities and having lots of fun in the snow!
Mrs.
Hodder’s English Kindergarten class: These students are learning about animal
adaptations in Science, the letter Gg in Language Arts and cooperation in
Social Studies.
Mme.
Perez-Diaz’s French Immersion Kindergarten class: These students are learning about
penguin habitats and snow volcanoes in Science.
Mme.
Mondoux Grade One and Two French Immersion class: In Grade 1 the students are
studying how things change. They are exploring this topic using Jello, popcorn,
and Play-doh! In Grade 2 these students are learning about how animals use all
their senses to take care of their young.
Mrs.
George’s Grade One English class: In Grade 1 the students are learning about
how God takes care of the world in Religion. In Health class they are learning
about how we are special and making cards for one another.
Ms.
Park’s Grade Two class: This week the students are continuing to do a Flat
Stanley novel study. They are now creating thier own “Flat Stanley’s” to send
to people around our country and the world. They are also learning about fact
families in Math.
Ms.
Payne’s Grade Three and Four class: In Grade 3/4 the students are excited to be
learning hockey in P.E. class, working on short stories in L.A. and building
structure in Science.
Ms.
Neary’s Grade Five and Six class: The Grade 5/6 class are creating their own
short stories in L.A. and filming commercials in Technology.
Mr. Hancock’s Junior High and Level One class: These
students are happy to be finishing their exams today. They had a ton of fun on
Wednesday when they went to Marble Mountain. They are sad that the Brazilian
students are leaving, but wish them the best of luck!
