February is going by quickly and students and staff at
Immaculate Heart of Mary School are working hard. We are looking forward to the
warmer months ahead.
We would like to congratulate Natalie Caines, Carter Bromley,
Will Brothers, Samuel Buckle, Gavin Doman, Noah Evans, Summer Gale, Ryan Lombard, Cohen Mackey, Ella Rashleigh,
Caleb Rashleigh, Cohan Vardy and Riley Wilton who won a medal at a Timbit
Hockey Tournament in Stephenville this past weekend.
We would like to extend best wishes to Keely Brothers who
will be participating in a gymnastics competition in St. John’s this weekend!
We would also like to congratulate Samuel Blackwood who broke
his first board in Tae Kwando.
On Monday the prayer group hosted a celebration for Saint
Valentine.
Report cards were distributed to Grade 7-Level I students on
Wednesday.
The Read-A-Long Program for the French Immersion classes
from Kdgt-Grade 2 began this week. High School students are hosting these
sessions.
On Wednesday and Thursday Sandra Burden from the School Milk
Foundation did presentations to Kdgt- Grade 6 classes. The presentations
addressed the heath concerns of the Provincial Curriculum from Kdgt to Grade 6.
We are still collecting pennies in aid of our Greenhouse
Project!
Next Week’s Events
Next Week is Teacher Appreciation Week.
Tuesday: 100th day of school! This day will also
be Pancake Day. The Staff will be preparing pancakes!
Wednesday: Ash Wednesday. Mass will be today.
Class News
The Junior Kindergarten: The children have been getting
ready for Valentine’s Day. They would like to welcome their new student, Rotém
Phillips Grobbelaar.
Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten class: This week the students are
learning to count by 5’s. They are also learning how to read, and are learning
about giraffes in Science.
Mmé Pérez-Diaz’s French Immersion Kindergarten class: This
week the students are learning about St. Valentine and creating crafts in
preparation for the special day.
Mme. Mondoux Grade One and Two French Immersion class: This week the students are having fun
creating marketing concepts to sell environmentally friendly soaps next week.
Mrs. George’s Grade One English class: The Grade One class
had fun learning about groundhogs and learning about measurement in Math. They
are having fun writing about Valentines and creating some lovely crafts.
Ms. Park’s Grade Two class: This week the students are
creating 4 different kinds of soaps as a project in Social Studies. They are
also creating commercials, posters, and pamphlets to promote their products.
They had fun learning about healthy foods in the School Milk Foundations
Presentations.
Ms. Payne’s Grade Three and Four class: In this class the Grade 3’s are almost
finished the “Build It Up” Science unit. The Grade 4 class is learning about
light in Science. The class is looking forward to Valentines Art porjects and
preparing for International Flag Day.
Ms. Neary’s Grade Five and Six class: This week the Grade
5/6 class are preparing for the upcoming music festival.
Mr. Hancock’s Junior High and Level One class: These
students have been busy getting ready for the upcoming Build and Bridge
Competition and preparing a Violence Prevention video.
