Today is pink and red theme day at our school
for Valentine’s Day. We would like to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day.
Mrs. Foley and the Student Council were selling
candy-grams this week for $0.50. They will be delivered today. Also this week was teacher appreciation week.
The teachers felt very appreciated with all the treats our families brought in
to them.
We have been following the Olympics very closely
this week. Thank you to Ms. Scott who has been keeping up to date with her
bulletin board display and Mr. Hancock who set up the media centre so we could watch
the opening ceremonies. We will be watching Katelyn Osmond skate nest week from
our Media Centre.
This week our grade 3-5 boys’ and girls’
basketball teams will play in the Western provincial Basketball
tournament. They are also playing this
weekend. We wish them luck! Our school is hosting the grade 5 girls’ Western
Provincial basketball Tournament.
Many of our classes made Valentine cards for
Veterans as part of the Valentines for Vets Campaign.
This
week our ITV News reporters are: William Bruce-Robertson Alejandra Hernadez,
Aria Kazerouni, and Samuel Michael.
We would like to congratulate Caleb and Ella
Rashleigh who won medals in hockey recently.
Congratulations to Ava Hodder who earned ribbons
and a badge in her CanSkate program.
Congratulations to our grade 3 to 5 boys’
basketball team who played a very close game against Sacred Heart last week!
Also to our grade 6 girls’ basketball team who played in the annual RNC
basketball tournament last week!

The junior kindergarten classes are learning
about the true meaning of love and friendship. They are also doing Valentine activities
and having a party today.
Mme. Brake’s Kindergarten French Immersion class
had lots of Valentine’s Day fun this week. They made love bugs, coupon books
and valentine’s holders out of recycled cereal boxes. Everyone is dressed in
rouge, rose and blanc today.
Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class is
working on Valentine’s Day and Olympic Activities. They are working on the
letter “g” and can’t wait for the 100th day of school on Monday!
Ms. Parsons’s Kindergarten English class is starting
addition in math. They are doing so well with the MindUp curriculum and
learning all the parts of the brain. They are following the Olympics closely.
Mme. Ryan’s grade one French Immersion class is enjoying
Valentine’s Day themed activities. They are finishing up their unit on
measurement. They are looking forward to beginning our new unit on numbers to
100. The 100th day of school is going to be a very exciting way to
begin their new unit!
Mrs. George’s grade one English class is making
a friendship quilt in health class. In Mathletics they are practicing addition
and subtraction online. They are super excited for their Valentine’s party
today. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
Ms. Park’s grade two class is writing special
messages to their friends in class for valentine’s Day. They are making 100th
day t-shirts. The student of the week for this week is Brooklyn.
Mme. LaChance’s grade two and three French
Immersion class is writing valentine cards for veterans this week. Each week ,
the grade 2 students read French books to Mlle Brake’s students. They enjoy
reading to them very much. This week, they wrote cards for their buddy readers.
Mrs. Foley’s grade three and four class are
enjoying watching their seeds sprout and grow in their classroom garden. The grade 3 students have begun a geometry
unit in math. They are learning about regular and irregular polygons.
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class made
self-portraits for Dame’s Portrait Gallery mail art show at the Grenfell Art Gallery.
Students and their parents had the opportunity to go and view their work at the
reception held on Wednesday evening. They would like to thank Mrs. Jane
Bruce-Robertson for working on this project with them. They were also busy this
week outside working on a snow sculpture.
Mr.
Drew Nadon’s junior high and level 1 class have started their model bridges for
the National Geoscience and Engineering Month popsicle bridge competition in March.
Mr. Warren Neville owner of Mechanical Advantage Engineering Ltd. visited the
students on Wednesday to discuss the competition and elements of bridge design.
The 100th day of school is this
Monday, February 17th!
On Tuesday our school will go skating from 9:30
am to 10:30 am. The skating is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. It will
also be a casual day. Also on Tuesday our classes will have a sneak peak of the
book fair. The family night event will take place from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm.
Our
school will be closed on Monday, February 24th for Winter Carnival
Family Day.
