We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend and Corner Brook Winter Carnival Day on Monday.
The students were very excited to go skating at the Pepsi Centre on Tuesday thanks to the Knights of Columbus. They also provided a yummy snack. It was a great day!
On Wednesday, everyone was wearing pink t-shirts for anti-bullying week and pink t-shirt day. A lot of students and teachers were wearing the pink t-shirt from Corner Brook’s Crime Prevention Committee. The shirt features the slogans of McKenna Batstone, Bridgett Sparkes, and Paige Walsh.  We would like to send a special thank you to Mrs. George who made a special pink t-shirt display in our entrance.
On Wednesday night and Thursday we had our Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you to Mrs. George and all the teachers for making it a wonderful event. Wednesday was our family night and Thursday was our student visits. Thank you also to Mr. McCarthy for volunteering to help on family night.
This week our school hosted the Winter Carnival Spelling Bee on Thursday night. It featured students in grades 4, 5 and 6 from all the schools in Corner Brook. Madison Noel and Samuel Michael were interviewed by Bernice Hillier of CBC on Tuesday morning. Our school spellers are: Amna Ahmad, Jericho San Jose, William Bennett, Samuel Michael, William Bruce-Robertson, and Madison Noel. They did t-e-r-r-i-f-i-c ! Thank you to Ms. Park and Mrs. McCarthy for organizing the event and to our judges: Suzanne Carey and Linda Chaisson.

Congratulations to our SUPER spellers: Amna, Jericho, William B, Samuel, William B-R and Madison who participated in the Corner Brook Winter Carnival Spelling Bee! You made us SO proud! A special shout-out to Amna who won the title of Grade 4 Corner Brook Champion!!
Also on Thursday we had our Winter Carnival fun day with outdoor carnival activities. Thank you to Mr. Ryley Nadon, Mr. Drew Nadon and the Junior High students for organizing the day! See picture below.

Father Roche visited our school on Thursday and shared some of his wonderful magic tricks with our students.

Stars of The Week
We would like to congratulate William Bruce-Robertson and Sadie MacDonnell who performed in Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador’s production of Muppet Mania on Saturday.
Congratulations to Anna Brake who participated in the Atlantic Skating Championships last weekend.
Congratulations to Colin and Gina Spencer who participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival in St. John’s over the weekend. Colin placed first in the nine and under musical theory category and Gina placed first in both the 11 and under musical theatre category and the 11 and under test piece category.

 
Class News

The junior kindergarten classes would like to thank the North Shore Early Childhood Association for the outdoor play equipment they donated. They welcome Megan Keeping a second year CONA student to Mrs. Vincent and Mrs. English’s class and Tara Tiller a second year CONA student to Mrs. Dicks and Ms. Crocker’s class.

Mme. Brake’s Kindergarten French Immersion class had a very fun and busy week. They skated on Tuesday and celebrated Sarah’s birthday. They all wore pink shirts on Wednesday for Anti-bullying day and on Thursday they had a blast doing Winter Carnival fun activities outside.

Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class enjoyed skating on Tuesday. They participated in Anti-bullying day on Wednesday and had a lot of fun doing carnival activities on Thursday.

Ms. Parsons’s Kindergarten English class was super excited for skating. In class this week they are making a book about their feelings.

Mme. Ryan’s grade one French Immersion class was busy this week learning how to count by 2s,5s and 10s and learning about different strategies. They had a lot of fun with all the activities this week especially the skating and carnival fun activities.

Mrs. George’s grade one English class has started their unit on penguins. In math they are counting in groups of 2, 5 and 10. They are very excited to be transplanting their seedlings today with Karen, their crop specialist friend!

Ms. Park’s grade two class had a great time this week! They loved the skating and the winter carnival fun day activities.

Mme. LaChance’s grade two and three French Immersion class is learning all about different carnivals this week including the Corner Brook Winter Carnival, Le Carnaval de Quebec, and Le Carnavel de Rio. They are looking at the similarities and differences of these three carnivals.  They really enjoyed the outdoor activities on Thursday.

Mrs. Foley’s grade three and four class enjoyed the skating thanks to the Knights of Columbus. They have begun their novel study on Charlotte’s Web in language arts. They would like to thank Mrs. George for another wonderful Scholastic Book Fair. They wore pink shirts on Wednesday to show that they stand up to bullies.

Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class had a great time skating on Tuesday. They also had a movie and pizza party on Tuesday with their prize from the Winter Carnival slogan contest. They all wore their pink t-shirts on Wednesday. They were really excited to have t-shirts with their classmates’ slogans on them! 
Mr. Drew Nadon’s junior high and level 1 class is finishing their Olympic unit on data analysis. They had a great time building the school snow sculpture and organizing the outdoor activities on Thursday.

Coming Up

We are having a school wide pancake breakfast on Tuesday morning starting at 7:30 am.

Ash Wednesday is March 5th. We will attend Mass on Wednesday at 8:30 instead of Friday.
