Welcome back, everyone!
We hope you had a great Easter break. Last Sunday the prayer group celebrated
the Divine Mercy with Mrs. Coleman at All Hallows Church.
On Monday we hosted our
annual in school Heritage Fair. There were lots of great projects. Congratulations
to the winners. Amna Ahmad, Hajra Ahmad, Keely Brothers, Mira Ismail, Maria
Reynolds, Clara Ryan, Bridgett Sparkes, Gina Spencer, and Douglas MacKenzie
will represent our school at the Western Region Heritage Fair held at G.C.
Rowe. The public viewing is at 1:45 pm.
On Tuesday we celebrated
International Dance Day! We had Bernice Rose from the Humber Community YMCA do
two Zumba sessions with our students in the afternoon. It was awesome. Everyone
had lots of fun! Also on Tuesday we had our junior kindergarten and
kindergarten information sessions for parents of students beginning in
September.
On Thursday night we had
our spring concert. Our school drama group, choirs and bands performed as well
as special performances by students who participated in the Rotary Music
Festival.
Our grade 6 girls’
soccer team has started practicing for their upcoming tournament next weekend.
This
week our ITV News reporters are: Nathan Anderson, McKenna Batstone, Lucas
Neville and Jayden Lempriere.
We would like to
congratulate Sam Antle, a member of the Atom B hockey team, who won a silver medal at the Provincial
Easter Tournament in Bonavista.
The junior kindergarten classes are excited about the weather beginning to warm up. They all had a great Easter break and the Easter Bunny brought them lots of chocolate. They had fun singing in the spring concert on Thursday night.
Mme. Brake’s
Kindergarten French Immersion class is very eager to be back after a wonderful
break. They are enjoying doing yoga and practicing their balloon breaths. They
all enjoyed the spring concert.
Mrs. Hodder’s
Kindergarten English class is learning about graphing and length in math. In
science they are learning about sinking and floating. They are enjoying the
warmer weather!
Ms. Parsons’s
Kindergarten English class is learning all about spring! They have started the
MindUp activity called “mindful eating”. They all had a great Easter break and
are now busy as bees learning new things.
Mme. Ryan’s grade one
French Immersion class had a very busy week. They were excited to plant their
milkweed seeds as part of the WWF’s butterfly project. They also started many
other seeds that will grow into plants to be planted in the greenhouse. They
loved the Zumba session on Tuesday afternoon. It was a great way to celebrate
International Dance Day.
Mrs. George’s grade one
English class is very excited that beans are growing on their plants now! They
started their last unit in math. They wrote about their favourite spring time
activities and made alleluia banners in religion class.
Ms. Park’s grade two
class are writing to pen pals from the Yukon. They are having lots of fun
making spring flowers in art class.
Mme. LaChance’s grade two
and three French Immersion class came back to school with lots of Easter news.
They are beginning to learn about a bunch of new topics including: poetry,
diagrams, fractions and the planet Earth. They would like to congratulate the
grade 3 students who took part in the school heritage fair. Their topic was
great Canadian inventions. They learned about the telephone, basketball,
snowmobiles, Canadram, Canadian Dry Ginger Ale and the walky-talky.
Mrs. Foley’s grade three
and four class enjoyed the Easter break. They were excited to take part in the
spring concert on Thursday evening.
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade
five and six class had a great Easter break. They are looking forward to the
last two months of school. The grade five students are learning about parallel,
perpendicular and intersecting lines in math, and learning about motion in
science. The grade six students participated in the Mayor for a Day Essay
contest. They had to think about things they really like about Corner Brook and
the things they would like to change. Both grades are getting ready for the
science fair at the end of May.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s junior
high and level 1 class are busy preparing for the Science Challenge at Grenfell
next week. They practiced a variety of science experiments during enrichment
classes to help them prepare. They presented their speeches in an in-class
speak off on Thursday and Friday morning.
On Tuesday, May 6th we will have our Junior High Speak Off in our school cafeteria beginning at 7 pm.
We are continuing to
accept registration for our junior kindergarten, kindergarten English and
kindergarten French Immersion classes for September 2014. Parents can contact
