We would like to thank Colemans for the wonderful turkey dinner we enjoyed on Friday as a school community and to our parent volunteers for serving the meal. We would like to thank our emcees Max Pittman and Carly Johannesen, as well as our grade 3-4 choir, grade 1 to Level III choir, and Brazilian choir performed as entertainment during the meal. Special thanks to Ms. Jennifer Matthews who accompanied the choir on piano and Ms. Jennifer Benyon-Martinec who directed the performances. During the dinner we presented our items for the Thanksgiving Day food drive to Mrs. Judie Gushue from the Food Bank. It was a truly special event.
Our cross country running team attended the C.C. Loughlin Fun Run on Tuesday afternoon. We would like to congratulate all our runners on an excellent race. Congratulations to Luke Coleman who placed third in the grade four boys, Molly George who placed third in the grade five girls, and Carter Bromley who placed first in grade five boys.
This week is Fire Prevention Week. Our school was visited by the local firefighters to conduct a practice fire drill with our whole school. Everyone did a great job!
Today we are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Fatima. Our school community in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus will celebrate this special day with a parade at Jubilee Field.

Class News
The junior kindergarten classes are practicing fire drills and learning about Fire Safety this week for Fire Prevention week. They welcomed Ms. Kacie Callahan to their junior kindergarten staff.
Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class is continuing to learn about patterns in math. They are beginning to learn about consonants and vowels. In social studies they are learning about needs and wants.
Mrs. George’s grade one English class has started some spooky writing and learning Halloween poems. They are learning about the seasons in science class. They are really excited about their new beta fish, Pickle!
Mme. Ryan’s grade one and two French Immersion class has been discussing fire safety at home and school. The children were excited to see the Fire Department visit the school. In their art class this week they created pumpkins using a pointillism technique.
Ms. Cunning’s grade two English class has been very busy. They are enjoying fall, talking about colours, thanksgiving, and Halloween. They went on a nature walk and created leaf prints in art. They are also creating fire prevention posters.
Mme. Moss’ grade three, four, five and six French Immersion class held classroom representative voting this week for the Student Leadership Council. The grade three and four students are learning tips and trips for identifying masculine nouns. The grade five and six students are beginning a unit on poetry, focusing on personification as their first literary device.
Mrs. Bishop’s grade three class is creating fire prevention posters this week to show their understanding of the theme: “Every second counts, plan two ways out”.
Ms. Guy’s grade four class would like to congratulate Luke Coleman on his medal for the C.C. Loughlin Running meet this week. The class really enjoyed the Thanksgiving Day dinner on Friday.
Mr. Ryley’s grade five class is learning about famous Canadians this week and writing a biography. In science they are continuing to work on their STEM builds.
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade six class wrote slogans for Fire Prevention Week. They are participating in the paper airplane Olympics in science. Students are taking part in a classroom recycling blitz from October 10 to 23. They are collecting egg cartons, buttons, old jeans, tin cans, glass jars with lids, and fruit and yogurt cups. These items will be used in art class and for activities during our Waste Reduction Week.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s grade seven and eight class are beginning a novel study this week on “Freak the Mighty” in language arts. They are started a new unit on integers.
Mr. Hancock’s grade nine to level three class is preparing for the Skills Challenge. The students began their fundraising for the trip by selling chocolate bars over the weekend.
