On Monday we continued the 12 days of Christmas with a skating party hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Following the skating we sang carols and decorated our school Christmas tree in the gym. This was organized and led by the grade five and six students. In the afternoon, we watched a Christmas movie in the gym. It was a fun filled day!
Tuesday was pajama day and Wednesday was Christmas sweater day.
Mrs. Coleman and the prayer group hosted the annual All Saints Celebration on Wednesday at All Hallows Church.
Today we enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast. We would like to thank Mrs. Cornick, Mrs. Hinks, Mrs. George and Mrs. King for preparing the pancakes. The Christmas variety show is this afternoon at 1:00 pm. It will feature performances from all our classes as well as individual and group acts.
Our in class spelling bees were written this week for grade four to eight students. We would like to congratulate the students who will be continuing on to the school Scripps Spelling Bee on January 15. In grade four: Mikka Chua, Isaiah Coleman, and Jamie White-Robertson; in grade five, Ava Hodder, CarlyRae Mouland, Isralea Nagania, Lily Smallwood; and in grade six, Molly Geroge, Candace Johannsen, Erica Kennedy, Charlotte Mercier, and Kate Murphy; in grade seven, Isabelle Mercier, Kira McCarthy, and Reyd Ward; in grade eight, Mohamed Al-Zubaidy, Carly Johannesen, and Fatima Alkhalil.

Class News
The junior kindergarten classes are welcoming Ms. Bowles to a full time position in JK 4. They have been making presents for their loved ones this week. They are also practicing for the variety show.
Mrs. Cornick’s Kindergarten class created their Eric Carle collages after study his books for a few weeks.
Mrs. George’s grade one English class is working on some special Christmas projects this week. They would like to wish all their readers a very Merry Christmas. See you in the New Year!
Mme. Ryan’s grade two and three French Immersion class has finished their Christmas stories and Santa Portraits. They are working on a piece for the variety show. Students are very excited for Christmas.
Ms. Bursey’s grade two English class is working on story structures and events. In math, they are discussing greatest to least. In social studies they are talking about needs and wants.
Mme. King’s grade four, five and six French Immersion class is performing a special arrangement of Silent Night for the variety show. They celebrated special French traditions this week with yummy hot chocolate and French croissants.
Ms. Williams’s grade three class worked in pairs to present their own Christmas stories. After each presentation, they answered questions from their classmates about their story. In math, they are working on estimating sums.
Mrs. Hink’s grade four class is very excited for the Christmas vacation. On Tuesday they had a class pizza party to celebrate Isaiah’s winning the Fire Safety Contest. They are practicing their special act for the variety show.
Mr. Ryley’s grade five class is finished their Christmas STEM builds. They are excited to have a special act in the variety show.
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade six class was busy this week practicing for their class variety show act. They would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Mr. Drew Nadon’s grade seven and eight class celebrated their Secret Santa gift exchange. They finished their Little Prince novel study with a final test. They enjoyed special Christmas spelling activities.
Mr. Hancock’s grade nine to level three class is looking forward to Christmas break. Science 1206 students are learning how to name acids. Chemistry 2202 students are doing stoichiometry calculations.
Coming Up
School will re-open on Monday, January 7th. The Immaculate Heart of Mary School would like to wish a Merry Christmas to everyone!
