Arshia
Kazerouni, Maria Reynolds, MacKenzie Brothers, Hannah Sparkes, Claire Reynolds,
and Douglas MacKenzie. Back: Nathan Anderson, and Hajra Ahmad have been working
very hard in the past weeks to prepare for their performance of "Oh, What
a Tangled Web!"
Spring is in the air, and students and staff of Immaculate Heart of Mary School are taking part in educational and fun activities!
The
student council hosted an Easter Hunt on Thursday before the holidays. The
winning classes were Mme Mondoux’s, Miss Neary’s and Miss Park’s.
Congratulations! It was a lot of fun!
We would
like to thank Jessi Martin who did another Yoga session with our Grade 5 and 6
students. Everyone really enjoyed the two sessions. Many thanks!
Our
Grade 7 Girls’ Basketball Team travelled to Deer Lake on Wednesday and played
Xavier. Maria Reynolds had 18 points and Hajra Ahmad had 8 points for the win.
We would
like to congratulate Keely Brothers who has been chosen to be on the Provincial
Gymnastics Team. They will represent our province at the Atlantic Championship
in April in Nova Scotia.
Tonight
our Junior High School students will be performing “Oh, What a Tangled Web” at
the Regional Drama Festival at Corner Brook Regional High. Everyone is welcome
to watch the show. The show starts at 9:00 p.m!
Our
school will be performing the musical, Cinderella, and students have been
auditioning for their part. Every child will be involved in the production
which will take place in late May.
On
Monday, the Kindergarten Grad Photos will be taken. The photographer will also
take the photo of any student who may have missed having his/her photo taken in
the fall.
There
will be a parent information session on Wednesday, April 24th at
7:00p.m. This will be for any parent whose child will be enrolled in our Junior
Kindergarten Program or full day English or French Immersion Kindergarten
Program in September 2013. For all other registrations, please contact the
office.
We would
like to congratulate Emma Barrett on the birth of her new baby sister, Nadia.
On
Thursday, guest speakers from the Association of New Canadians presented to our
Junior High Students about the immigrant experience in Canada and stereotyping.
Class News
The Junior Kindergarten: The children are learning about spring through
fun creations and activities. Miss Crocker’s and Mrs. Dicks' J. K. class would
like to thank Mr. Cory Conrad, Produce Manager from Colemans at the Gardens,
for the fun nutritional session on Tuesday morning. They liked all of the on
Tuesday Morning. They liked all of the fruit treat too!
Mrs. Hodder’s English Kindergarten class: These students are looking
forward to their Graduation photos on Monday. They are talking about weather in
Science and learning about the letter Z.
Mme. Pérez-Diaz’s French Immersion Kindergarten class: This week the
students are learning new letters that start with the letter L. They are
exploring measurement in Math. They had fun tracing their feet and comparing
the sizes. They also had fun reading and discussing the story of Noah’s Ark in
Religion class.
Mme. Mondoux’s Grade One and Two French Immersion class: The Grade 2’s
are creating their own story books inspired by a book called “Sortez de mon
livre!” They will be reading them to the Kindergartens later this month. The
Grade Ones are counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s as well as learning all about how
the letter Ee can help change the sounds of words in Language Arts.
Mrs. George’s Grade One English class: The
Grade One students are learning about skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10’s. In
Social Studies they are learning about how to take care of our planet. They are
also looking for and writing about signs of spring!
Ms. Park’s Grade Two class: The Grade 2 English class is learning how to
add two digit numbers using many different strategies in Math class. They are
having a ton of fun making spring crafts in Art. They are continuing with
student of the week writing in Language Arts. This week their star student is
Avery!
Ms. Payne’s Grade Three and Four Class: In Math, they are completing
their Math unit on Measurement. The students were really happy to be back in
school and to see each other after a wonderful Easter break. They are really
looking forward to an Easter Show & Tell today!
Ms. Neary’s Grade Five and Six Class: Grade 5/6 students are busy
preparing for the upcoming Musical, Heritage Fair and Science Fair!
Mr. Hancock’s Junior High Class: The Junior High School students have
had a great time preparing for their play at the Drama Festival!
