Summer quickly approaches and students and staff of Immaculate Heart of Mary are enjoying the sun!

We would like to welcome to our school office Ms. Sarah Brake who is doing a work placement for six weeks.

On Thursday our Junior High Students participated in the All Canadian Science Challenge. The team of Hajra Ahmad, Nathan Anderson, MacKenzie Brothers, and Maria Reynolds took first place at the competition. Congratulations are extended to all students on their performance. Many thanks are extended to Mr. Hancock for helping prepare them.

We are collecting recyclables for our Breakfast Program. All recycling during the month of May will be in aid of our Breakfast Program.

Hajra Ahmad, Keely Brothers, Mira Ismail, Sara Ismail, Maria Reynolds, Clara Ryan, and Olivia Park participated in the Western Regional Heritage Fair on Saturday.

Mr. Graham will receive his Honorary Degree of Law today. Our school community would like to congratulate him on this most deserved recognition.

MacKenzie Brothers participated in a Cheerleading Competition this weekend in St. John’s. They had a great turnout!

Caylie Blake participated in a Seminar this past weekend in St. John’s.

On Monday, the Prayer Group hosted a celebration for the May Crowning. We would like to thank Mrs. Coleman and the members of the Prayer Group.

Our students really enjoyed their trip to St. Pierre!

Thursday was World Catholic Day and we collected a toonie per person for the Toonies for Tuition.

 
Class News

 
The Junior Kindergarten: The children have been busy creating crafts for Mother’s Day. They have also been busy creating a display for World Catholic Day!

 

Mrs. Hodder’s English Kindergarten class: These students are learning about timelines in Social Studies.  They have been experimenting with heavy vs. light in Science.

 

Mme. Pérez-Diaz’s French Immersion Kindergarten class: This week, the students are talking about their neighborhoods in Social Studies. In Art, they are making colour wheels and learning about heavier, lighter and the same weight!

 

Mme. Mondoux’s Grade One and Two French Immersion class: These students are learning how to alphabetize their names, how to identify verbs in their readers, and reading aboriginal legends.

 

Mrs. George’s Grade One English class: The Grade One Class is busy making Mother’s Day cards and crafts. They are getting ready for the Science Fair next week.

 

Ms. Park’s Grade Two class: The Grade 2 English class are busy practicing for their First Holy Communion. They are also creating their own “Where the Wild Things Are” stories. They are learning about aboriginals in Social Studies.

 

Ms. Payne’s Grade Three and Four Class: In Social Studies, the students are preparing to create their own version of the Newfoundland Flag. The weather has been beautiful, and the students have really enjoyed using the outdoor classroom!

 

Ms. Neary’s Grade Five and Six Class: Grade 5/6 students are busy practicing for the Spring Musical. They are also busy preparing for the Science Fair next week!

 

Mr. Hancock’s Junior High Class: The Junior High Students had a great time at the All Canadian Science Challenge. They are now looking forward to the Science Fair.
