Our school breakfast program began this week. It runs every day from 7:30 am to 8:20 am. We are looking for volunteers for our breakfast and lunch programs. Please contact the office if you can help.

The kindergarten to grade six students rode a bus to the Arts and Culture centre on Monday to see the Heather and Eric performance. It was a great show. For many kindergarten students it was their first bus ride!

On Tuesday IHMS celebrated its 15th anniversary with each class singing, dancing and sharing special thoughts about our school. We enjoyed cake and milk together after the performances. Thank you to Mr. Drew Nadon’s class for helping organize the cake and milk.

Our cross country running team participated in their first meet this week at St.  Gerard’s. Thank you to Mlle. Brake, Ms. Rumbolt and Mme LaChance for accompanying the students.  All of our runners did very well!

Student Leadership Council elections are underway. The voting for Prime Minister/Deputy Prime Minister, Secretary, and Primary Representative will be on Monday. Classroom representatives will also be selected by homeroom classes on Monday.

Our media centre opened this week. Our reporters were Hajra Ahmad, Emily Murley, Rebecca Janes and Simon Boitsefski.

We would like to thank Murphy Brothers for donating the bus for our junior high to level 1 students to go on their field trip to Bonne Bay Pond last week.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Foley on the birth of their baby girl, Kaia, on Tuesday!

STARS OF THE WEEK
We would like to congratulate Nikola Verbiski who raised $2,580 over the summer for Conor and Ava Duggan from Pasadena.

Congratulations to Simon Boitsefski, Clare Coleman and Colin Spencer who participated in the Gros Morne Summer Music as members of the Memorial University Chamber Choir.

IHMS WEEKLY CLASS NEWS
The junior kindergarten classes are using the letter “a” and the number “1”. They are continuing to learn about apples and are making applesauce this week.

Mme. Brake’s Kindergarten French Immersion class is wishing IHMS a very happy 15th birthday. They really enjoyed the cake and milk, yum! They had a great time at the “Sing Along With Friends” performance at the Arts and Culture Centre. For many students it was their first time on a school bus!

Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class was very excited to take a bus ride to the Arts and Culture Centre. They really enjoyed the Heather and Eric performance. They had a lot of fun celebrating IHMS 15th birthday with cake and milk.

Mrs. George’s grade one English class is really enjoying creating patterns this week in math. They are learning about what happens to the sun each day in science. They would like to welcome Brady Green to their class this week. The star of the week is Ava Hodder!

Mme. Ryan’s grade one French Immersion class is finishing up their unit on patterns this week. They are learning about the sun and temperature. They had an awesome time at the birthday celebration.

Ms. Park’s grade two class is making time capsules in social studies. In science they are learning about air.

Mme. O’Dell’s grade two French Immersion class really enjoyed singing with Mme. Ryan’s class during our school celebration on Tuesday. Bonne Fete, IHMS!

Ms. Rumbolt’s grade three and four class created a song called “Everything is awesome!” for the IHMS birthday celebrations. In art class they made Lego self-portraits.

Mme. LaChance’s grade three and four French Immersion class began a new project this week. They are writing to penpals in St. Malo, Quebec. They have already written their letter to students in their grade 3 and 4 class. This project will help them practice their French writing. Later in the year they will use Skype to talk with their friends.

Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class had their first spelling test this week. Everyone did great! The students wrote a song called “The First 15 Days of School” for the IHMS birthday celebration.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s junior high and level 1 class had an awesome field trip last week to Mrs. King’s cabin at Bonne Bay Pond. Students had a great time tubing, knee boarding, and enjoying a barbecue supper together. Thank you to Mr. King, Mrs. King, Mr. Drew Nadon, and Mrs. McCarthy for supervising the students on their field trip.


COMING UP AT IHMS...
Next week is National Forest Week. We will be celebrating on Thursday afternoon. We are asking all families to bring a bulb or crocus to school to plant around the school.
Also on the September 25 we will host our annual curriculum night from 7:00-8:30 pm in the school gym.
Our school will be participating in the Terry Fox walk on Monday, September 29. We are asking students to wear casual clothes and donate $1 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
