This week was filled with educational field trips!

Rebecca Janes and Natalie Parsons experience some hands on learning during the classes Ducks Unlimited Field trip this week.

 Last Friday afternoon we celebrated Jump Rope for Heart and Stroke with a variety of different activities. Students watched videos, danced, participated in a quiz, jumped rope, and did a variety of strength training movements all while learning about their heart and cardiovascular system. Thank you to Mr. Ryley Nadon and the junior high and level 1 students for organizing the sessions.

This week was filled with educational field trips! Mme. O’Dell and Ms. Park’s grade two classes had a plant identification field trip at Margaret Bowater Park. The Little Green Thumbs group consisting of Mrs. Hodder’s kindergarten students, Mrs. George’s grade one students and Ms. Horner’s grade three and four students went on a field trip to Wright’s Farm in Pasadena. Mme. Ryan’s grade one French Immersion students visited the Insectarium in Deer Lake.  The grade three and four class also did a field trip with Duck’s Unlimited and visited the Bonne Bay Marine Station on Thursday.

On Wednesday evening our families were invited to our annual Art Show. There was lots of art on display from our many art projects this year. We have a lot of talented students!
The junior high to level 1 students continued their final exams this week. Today they are writing their math exam. Their last exam is on Monday morning

 
STARS OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to the students who received their First Holy Communion last Sunday at Holy Redeemer. Receiving First Holy Communion was Jacob Blackwood, Carter Bromley, Jemma Butler, Meredith Dawe, Noah Evans, Summer Gale, Molly George, Emily Hindy, Matthew Kemp, Leah Lainey, Charlotte Mercier, Isabelle Mercier, Katherine Noel, Kate Murphy, Jaidyn Prosper, and Gabriel Rowsell. Thank you to Father Terry for a beautiful service, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Deckert, and Mrs. Goerge for preparing the students, and to Mrs. King, Ms. Park, Mrs. McCarthy, Mme. Lachance and all the students’ family members for attending the service.

Congratulations to Anderson Murphy who had his end of year musical recital, Emily Hindy on her swimming badges, Oscar George who received a badge in beavers, and Rotém Philips-Grobbelaar and Brooklynn Pittman who both received badges in sparkes


CLASS NEWS
The junior kindergarten classes really enjoyed showing their artwork on Wednesday night. The children made wonderful artwork for their dads for Father's Day.

Mme. Brett’s Kindergarten French Immersion class is learning to count money this week. They have been very busy making year end videos for our final assembly. They are looking forward to their field trip today.

Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class really enjoyed their field trip to Wright’s farm in Pasadena. They would like to thank Mr. And Mrs. Coleman for allowing them to enjoy lunch at their home during their field trip. This week they have been busy making Father’s Day crafts. They would like to wish all their dads and pops a happy Father’s Day!

Mrs. George’s grade one English Green Thumbs group had a ball at Wright’s Farm on Wednesday. The farmers were so very nice to them! They learned a lot about farming. They are also looking forward to their primary field trip today to Prince Edward Park. The class would also like to thank Mr. And Mrs. George for the wonderful party they hosted for the class last Friday night. Also, the students would like to wish all fathers (especially their dad’s) a very happy Father’s Day.

Mme. Ryan’s grade one French Immersion class had lots of fun at the Insectarium. The children thought the butterfly room and the snake were tied for best feature. The class has also been very busy working on surprises for Father's Day and writing descriptive writing pieces about a classmate.

Ms. Park’s grade two English class had a wonderful field trip looking for flowers and plants through the Corner Brook Stream Trail and Margaret Bowater park. They really enjoyed doing their summer art and crafts which they displayed in the art show on Wednesday night. Today they are looking forward to their field trip to Prince Edward Park.

Mme. O’Dell’s grade two French Immersion class were busy this week practicing a musical about the story “The Three Little Pigs” for an end of year show for their parents next week. The class really enjoyed their field trip identifying plants with the grade two English students.

Ms. Horner’s grade three and four class had a very busy week with fun field trips! The class really enjoyed the art show on Wednesday night. They are looking forward to celebrating their Little Green Thumbs harvest on Tuesday.

Mme. Lachance’s grade three and four French Immersion class had a very full week of activities. They had a Ducks Unlimited Tour on Wednesday, visited the Bonne Bay Marine Station on Thursday and today are going to the NL Sports Fest at the Pepsi Centre. The grade three students have written their own stories and published them in their very own book!

Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class had an excellent time on their field trip on Thursday to Margaret Bowater Park, City Hall, the rooftop garden and the Corner Brook Museum. In social studies the grade five students made talking sticks. The class is looking forward to the spelling bee on Monday.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s junior high and level 1 class have been busy writing their final exams this week. Today they are writing their Math exam. After the exam the students are looking forward to their field trip to Mrs. King’s cabin at Bonne Bay Pond.


 
COMING UP...
On Monday we are hosting out end of year spelling bee for grades 3 to 6. This will be a black and yellow theme day. In the afternoon we will have our sports day.
On Tuesday we will be hosting our end of year pancake breakfast on Tuesday from 7:45 am until 8:30 am. The final variety show hosted by the Student Leadership Council will take place at 1:15 pm.
Our year end Mass will take place at All Hallows on Wednesday morning at 8:30 am, following Mass we will have our awards at 9:30 am. Dismissal for summer vacation is at noon.
