IHMS Students Donate To The SPCA

IHMS students, Carla and Nicola Du Toit. donate a cheque to the SPCA. Nicola Du Toit received a cheque for $25 from the Royal Canadian Legion for an honorary mention in the Primary Colour poster contest. She donated her cheque to the SPCA to help all the cats and dogs that do not have a nice home. As well, both her and her sister have been donating money from their allowance every month since September to the SPCA.

Congratulations to the Junior High class for their participation in the Intermediate Skills Challenge in the areas of Lego Robotics and Wind Turbine Design in Mount Pearl last weekend. Our Lego Robotics team placed seventh and students Brian Mackenzie and Sarah Yetman received bronze medals for their wind turbine design.

The Student Leadership Cookie sale in aid of the library was a great success. They raised $48.00. Thank you to the students for bringing in the yummy cookies and cupcakes.

IHMS under 12 girls (in silver uniform), first basketball game against Sacred Heart school.

The U12 Girls Basketball team had their very first game this week against a team from Sacred Heart School. On Wednesday the team was joined by lots of cheering fans for their first ever game afterschool. Way to go girls! They look forward to continuing to practice and playing more games.

The chocolate hearts go on sale today. The Student Leadership Council is taking orders for chocolate hearts to be delivered on Valentine’s Day. The cost of each heart is 0.25 cents.

Class News
The Junior Kindergarten classes are starting to learn the number five. Last week Mrs. Eileen Ryan visited their class and read stories to the children. They are also learning about Ground Hog Day through various types of stories, circle time, art and science activities.

The Kindergarten class is experiencing their senses in health class. They are discovering their family tree.

The Grade 1 class is doing activities for Ground Hog Day. They are also researching animals and learning about their feelings.

The Grade 2 class is adding and subtracting in math. They are making a book about technology and reading 100 books for scholastic to make the earth greener.

The Grade 3 and 4 class made signs to cheer on the girls basketball team on Wednesday. They are also excited about the new seating plan in science class.

The Grade 5 and 6 class is studying the solar system and enjoying the D.A.R.E. program.

The Junior High class is still recovering from their trip to St. John’s for the Lego Robotics Challenge. They visited the Johnson GeoCentre, Signal Hill, The Rooms, Saint Bonaventure’s College and went glow bowling while on their trip.

Coming-Up
A representative from the Red Cross will be visiting the Grade 5 and 6 class to talk about the threat of Malaria in other countries on Monday.

Next week we will be celebrating the 100th day of school!

The Student Leadership Council is selling chocolate hearts for Valentines Day from Feb 5 to 10. Chocolates will be delivered on February 12.

Report cards are going home on February 10 and parent teacher interviews are on February 11 from 7-8:30.

The mini-reporters are busy celebrating one the reporters birthday today. We’ll be back with more news next week.
