2010 Science Fair Awards

This week the grade 4-9 students are enjoying their French trip to St. Pierre. They will arrive back in Corner Brook tomorrow. We hope everyone had an awesome trip.

Last Friday was our annual science fair. There were many interesting experiments and research projects on lot of different topics like solar energy, tooth decay, butterflies, locomotive engines and static electricity. There were three guest judges: Raphael Soucy, Simon Janson, and Cec Lake. Thank you very much for judging. All students received a certificate designed by Mr. Reynolds. Thank you to everyone who helped to make our science fair a success again this year.

On Monday grades 5-9 enjoyed a drama workshop with TNL’s Sarah MacDonald-Anderson. They learned fun techniques for acting by playing games.

Our Student Leadership Council is having a daily canteen that is starting this Monday. Students can buy things like yogurt, apples, cheese strings, water, and 100 calorie chips.

Last week several of our students attended Mrs. Mugford’s funeral. She was a valued contributor to the IHMS prayer group.

Frisbee intramurals have started at lunch time for grades 2-9 on Mondays and Thursdays at lunch.

Stars of the Week

Congratulations to our students who participated in the Corner Brook Silver Blades Ice Show last week. Caylie Blake, Simon Boitskfski, Brooklynn Companion, Abigail Companion, Carla du Toit, Nicola du Toit, Caleb Kelly and Jasmine Penney all skated in this show.

Class News
The Junior Kindergarten classes are starting spring crafts and the number 9. They are planting the trees they got at the Forestry Fair on Friday.

The Kindergarten class is doing time lines in social studies and graphing in Math.

The Grade 1 class had a public health nurse visit their class to talk to them about dental health on Monday.

The Grade 2 class is busy preparing for the 101 Dalmatians musical. The students are practicing their songs. They are also learning about living things in science and studying how animals change as they grow up.

The grade 3 and 4 class is excited to learn their hamster Nibbles is a girl. The grade 3’s missed the grade 4’s who were gone to St. Pierre this week. They are hard at work on novel studies in language arts.

The Grade 5 and 6 class is enjoying caring for their class pets. They are working on independent novel studies for language arts and finishing up a unit on Africa in Social Studies.

The Junior High class really enjoyed the drama workshop on Monday. They are working on sewing projects in Enrichment class.

Coming-Up
The Student Leadership Council canteen service begins on Monday.

During the month of May all bags of recycling dropped off at the school will be donated to the school Breakfast Program. Bags can be dropped off at the school or you can contact the school to have your recycling picked up.

On Wednesday, May 5th there will be a parent information session at 7 pm for September 2010 French Immersion Kindergarten students.

Class photo day is Tuesday, May 11.
