We Raised $466.36 For The Janeway Children's Foundation

Kindergarten class making their donations for the Janeway Children's Foundation last week. Collectively our school raised $466.36.

Last Friday we had a school track and field meet. Many students raced in a variety of categories including long jump and 500 m running. Congratulations to all who participated in the meet. The winners are invited to a track and field meet in Mount Pearl on June 20th.Good luck everyone! Thank you to the Junior High Class and Ms. Dutton for organizing the event.

Last Friday we also had the Cirque du Coeur (Circus of the Heart). The grade 5 and 6 class performed a circus act for all students that included hula hoops, cartwheels, pyramids, juggling and clowning. After the introduction students were taught how to do various circus activities by the grade 5 and 6 students. Thank you the grade 5 and 6 class and Ms. Dutton! Everyone had a lot fun. There were even students dressed up in funny costumes.

On Tuesday the grades 3 to 9 participated in the salmon release at Hughes Brook. It was very rainy and muddy, but everyone still had fun. Also on Tuesday was the Kindergarten graduation ceremony. The Kindergartens sang songs and recited the ABC’s of what they learned this year. Congratulations to you all.

Junior High exams took place this week. We’re sure everyone did well.

On Wednesday the primary students went on a field trip to the bowling alley. Their picnic had to be rescheduled because of the all the rain. They hope to have a Teddy Bear picnic on another day.

Yesterday the grade 5 and 6 class had a Celebration of Life service (funeral) for their class gerbil Recess who died over the weekend after an unpleasant accident. Thank you to all the students and staff members who attended the service. Also Thursday was formal day. It was nice to see everyone in their dresses and shirts and ties.

On Thursday the Du Toit family departed by Washington, DC, for the People to People Youth Leadership Conference. We would like to wish Carla a great trip.

Today is the last day for the lost and found table at the main entrance. All items will be packed up to be donated at the end of the day.

IHMS is welcoming a new teacher to our school Mr. Greg Taaffe for September 2010. Mr. Taaffe has a lot of experience in math, science, and technology. Also, beginning in September Ms. Nicole Robertson will be doing her internship in our kindergarten French immersion class with Mme Noseworthy.

Stars of the Week
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Heresy Track and Field meet last Friday you are all stars of the week!

Congratulations to Carla du Toit and Jasmine Penney who are co-recipients of the Student of the Year Award. These awards were given out on Thursday because both girls are travelling to the People to People Youth Leadership Conference and will not be in school on June 23 for the awards assembly. Congratulations.

Class News
The junior kindergarten classes had a teddy bear picnic this week. They are finalizing their Father’s Day gifts and reviewing their letters and numbers. They are enjoying the last few days of the school year.

The kindergarten class enjoyed their graduation. They are learning about transportation in Social Studies.

The grade one class really enjoyed the bowling trip on Wednesday. They are super excited about the big party at Mrs. George’s house this weekend.

The grade two class had a guest speaker this week come and talk to them about wildlife. They loved the centre bowl trip.

The grade three and four class had their last spelling test on Monday. The grade three’s enjoyed their trip to centre bowl. This week Ms. Dutton threw them a class birthday party. There were cupcakes, streamers and they made toutons.

The grade five and six class said goodbye to a great friend and pet Recess. We will miss you. They are worked very hard on his funeral choosing, bible readings, hymns and personal messages. They are looking forward to the spelling bee on Monday.

The junior high class is finished their exams. They are busy preparing for the awards assembly on Wednesday. They are excited for summer break.

Coming Up
There is a spelling bee for grade 3 to 6 students on Monday. Students are asked to wear yellow and black. On Monday homeroom will be extended for school book return.

There is a school breakfast on Tuesday at 8:30 am and it will also be a sports day.

On Wednesday there will be a family mass at 9:00 am and the awards assembly will begin at 10:00 am. School closes on Wednesday ay 12:00.

The mini-reports are sad that Recess is gone. We’ll be back for one more week of news.
