The grade one class, with the help from the entire school, were thrilled to have filled 45 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, beating last year's record! The organization delivers to millions of children in poor and war-torn countries around the world. This year, the boxes are going to Haiti.

In our first game of the season, Nicole Keeping scored the first basket seconds after the tip off.

The girl’s basketball team played a game on Monday against Sacred Heart School in our gym. The girls played very well. Go team, go! Thank you to Mr. Taaffe, Mr. Whelan and Ms. Dutton who coach the girls on Saturdays and after school.

Report cards went home on Tuesday. We hope you all did great. Parent teacher interviews were held on Wednesday night.

Our school was accepted for “A Mon Meilleur”. We received a French teaching guide for Kindergarten to grade 3, which included worksheets, CDs and physical activity equipment.

There was $661 dollars raised by our parents at the toy and clothing sale last weekend. We now have over $1,000 for our playground project.

Today we are having a casual day for the Canadian Catholic School Trustee Association. They give money to schools for kids who need tuition help.

The Junior High students are in St. John’s. Today they are visiting the MUN Botanical Gardens and the Fluvarium. The skills challenge is tomorrow. They are competing in Lego League Robotics, Wind Turbine Design, Job Skill Demonstration and TV Video production. Good luck everyone!

The YMCA David Elliot Memorial Peace Week Speak Off was Wednesday night. The two students that attended from our school were Jenna Yetman and Nicole Keeping. They both did a great job! Jenna Yetman was chosen as the overall winner.

The junior high class was on Corner Brook Café this week for the Skills Challenge. Mrs. McCarthy, Carla du Toit and Andrew Dolomount were interviewed by Wendy Woodland.

Congratulations to figure skater Caylie Blake who skated in a competition in St. John’s last weekend.

Class News

The Junior Kindergarten classes are decorating their classroom for Christmas. They are also doing Christmas activities.

The English Kindergarten class is going to the fire station on Wednesday. They are working on the letter “a”.

The French Immersion Kindergarten class is learning the letter “w”. They are learning about vocabulary in French and learning their songs for the Christmas concert.

The grade one class is reading a book called “Stone Soup”. After they finish the book they are going to make their own stone soup.

The grade two class is starting a book talk and they are making a class lunch. They will be making pizza.

The grade three and four class are making Christmas cards to prepare for the holidays. They are also making a cityscape out of paper.

The grade five and six class is learning about the Burmese Python and the Everglades in language arts class. Today in art they are making monster faces with paint.

The junior high class designed Christmas cards for a fundraiser. The band is practicing for the Christmas concert.

Coming Up

There will be a drop and shop on Saturday, November 27 from 10 am to 3 pm.

The Christmas concert is December 14th at 7 pm.
