The girls’ basketball team raised a total of $2,400 on their recycling drive! Way to go team! The girls will have their first exhibition game sometime next week.

The grade 6-9 students had a great time in St. John’s. Thank you to Mrs. McCarthy, Mr. Gillard, Mr. Hancock and Mrs. King who travelled with the students. Also thank you to Mr. Whelan, Mr. Sparkes, Mrs. Reynolds and Mr. and Mrs. Hamann who drove the students.  Some of the things they did in St. John’s were bowling, swimming, shopping, watching a movie, rock climbing and touring the Basilica. Thank you to everyone who helped prepare the students including Corey Conrad, Bonita Wheeler, Janet Joyce and Scott Reynolds of Colemans, Sean Dolter of the Green House and Garden Store,  Dave Gillard and Penny Coley of Royal LePage, Dean Simms-Anderson of Mel’s Signs and Graphics,  Peter Antle of the Greenwood Inn, Mrs. Marie Ryan a retired teacher, New Reflections, and Silver Scissors and Emerald Spa.

On Saturday, Mrs. Vincent and Mrs. English hosted a “Shop and Drop” in aid of the Shepherd’s Fund. The day raised $310! Thank you to Mrs. George, Miss Morrall, Mlle Wight, and Ms. Dwyer for helping.

Thank you to Aaron Hancock who helped out at parent teacher night last week.

The first candle of Advent was lit by Mrs. George’s class on Monday morning in chapel.

We had a Skills Challenge showcase in our gym on Wednesday. Thank you to Mr. Gillard for preparing a video and slideshow of the trip.

Today our school library officially re-opens. We are having a small ceremony in the library. Some of our students will read limericks they wrote for National Library Month and there will be volunteers reading books about libraries to our classes.  Our new library is fully automated, has a classroom seating area and a smartboard.

Our student nurses finished their work placements this week in our Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten class.

Tomorrow is the Santa Claus parade and our annual tree trimming ceremony. We hope to see you all there. Thank you to Ms. Bennett, Ms. Wight, Ms. Dwyer, Ms, Morrall, Mr. Gillard and student volunteers for preparing our float.

From The Classrooms

The junior kindergarten classes are doing Christmas crafts and making presents for their parents.  Student nurses Vicki Jennings, Tanya Hume, Joshua Penney and Mike Reid completed their work placement on Wednesday.

Mlle. Wight’s Kindergarten French Immersion class is learning about families in social studies and they are happy to have a class Christmas tree.

Ms. Morrall’s Kindergarten English class is currently learning about Advent in class. They are having fun decorating their class with Christmas decorations.  Student nurses Michael Hinks and Jessica Strowbridge did a presentation with the class on playground safety.

Ms. Dwyer’s Kindergarten English class is learning the letter “n” and they are making a winter mural.

Mme. Perez-Diaz’s grade one French Immersion class did a lot of painting this week. They are starting addition in math and also did Christmas crafts.

Mrs. George’s grade one English class had their first Advent celebration and lit the first candle on the Advent wreath. They wrote friendly letters to Santa and they were excited to have Debbie Marks come in and read to them.

Ms. Park’s grade two class made reindeer crafts this week. In science they had a race to see which liquid (water, ketchup, and vegetable oil) flows faster. In math they created number problems. In social studies they are learning about goods and services.

Ms. Bennett’s grade three and four class just started a new read-aloud called “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. It’s very funny so far. They are learning about birthdays and celebrations in French class.

Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class is doing an assignement in science about living things. They had a quiz this week. In math they are doing decimal work in their workbooks. In religion they have learned about the changes in our mass.

Mr. Hancock’s junior high and level 1 class had a great time in St. John’s. The grade 8 and 9’s are finishing a novel study on “The Pearl”. The grade 7’s are making a movie about healthy eating. You may have seen them filming kids eating healthy.
