Last week at IHMS on Wednesday we had a parent-teacher night. Loads of parents came and received a lot of good news about their kids.
At our bake sale for the Shepherd’s Fund we raised $320. Special thanks to Mrs. Foley and our student leadership council.
IHMS’s grade 1 classes were successful in Operation Christmas Child. They filled 60 boxes! IHMS thanks Mrs. George’s and Mme. Ryan’s classes for a great job.
The recycle my cell challenge finished on Friday. Thank you everyone for the cell phone donations.
The grade 6 to level 1 students had a great trip to St. John’s. They did not leave until Friday because of the bad weather on Thursday. They would like to thank the drivers and chaperons, they were: Mr. and Mrs. Brake, Mrs. Reynolds, Mr. Sparkes, Mr. and Mrs. Brothers, Mr. Spencer, Mr. Hancock, Mrs. McCarthy and Mr. and Mrs. King.
Mr. Drew Nadon visited our school this week. He taught some classes with his brother Mr. Ryley Nadon. Mr. Drew Nadon will begin teaching in our school in January.
On Thursday IHMS had a Movember fundraiser where everyone wore a mustache and donated $1 for cancer research.
IHMS is going to have fun with “The Little Green Thumbs” program. Our teachers Mrs. Foley, Ms. Park, and Mrs. Hodder are going to a special conference in St. John’s this weekend. Good luck to them!

Stars of The Week

This week the grade six to nine students attended the Intermediate Skills Challenge in Mount Pearl, NL> We participated in Lego Robotics where for the first time, we had two teams. Hajra Ahmad and Maria Reynolds participated in TV Video Production and did an amazing job. Mira Ismail and Caroline Bruce-Robertson participated in 2-D Computer Animation creating a 11 second video with a sound clip, Alejandra Hernandez and Sara Ismail participated in Wind Turbine and won bronze medals.

Our Lego Robotics team 1 consisting Iker Aguirre, Keely Brothers, Anna MacKenzie, Nicolas Morreno, William Brice-Robertson, Gina Spencer and Clara Ryan all did an amazing job. They received awards for project innovation solution and second place for robot design.

Our second team consisting of Anna Brake, Jayden Lempriere, Douglas MacKenzie, Madison Noel, Cameron Peddle, Juan Carlos Ramirez, Jarius San Jose, and Bridgett Sparkes received an award for strategy and innovation, third place for mission points, and also received bronze medals for placing third overall provincially in all four categories.  And one of the most important awards are for the coaches. Mrs. McCarthy and Mr. Hancock are the two best coaches you could ask for. They helped us through everything and did all the running around all day. We all would like to give a huge thank you to our coaches for everything!

Congratulations to Craig Bishop, Chase Colbourne, and Colin Spencer and who won bronze medals in Karate.

Congratulations to, Isaac Buckingham, Cohen Mackey, Jesse Racicot and Caleb Rashleigh who won bronze medals in a novice hockey tournament this weekend.

Congratulations also to Cohen on receiving karate certificates for Awesome Flying Side Kick and Awesome Respect.
Congratulations to Ava Igno who passed her gymnastics level.

Class News

The junior kindergarten classes are getting ready for Christmas and doing all kinds of Christmas crafts. They can’t wait for the Christmas concert.

Mme. Brake’s Kindergarten French Immersion class is busy getting ready for Christmas and decorating and singing. They’ve been having lots of winter fun. On Monday they built a new student named “Frosty” . They enjoyed wearing moustaches for Movember on Thursday. They hope we raised lots of money for cancer.

Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class is working with five frames in math and also working on the concepts of more, less and same as. They are studying the letter “n” and making Christmas art.

Ms. Parson’s Kindergarten English class is very excited that the elf on the shelf decided to visit them until Christmas. They are very busy making Christmas crafts.

Mme. Ryan’s grade one French Immersion class has been having fun using their addition skills to solve problems and are very excited to start subtraction. They are learning about weather and the instruments to predict the weather. They are also tracking the weather this month.

Mrs. George’s grade one English class is learning about adding and doubles in math. They are starting a new unit in social studies about needs and wants.

Ms. Park’s grade two class is making fun winter crafts in art class. They are also enjoying learning about measurement and measuring their partner’s arm, hand and foot to see who is the biggest.

Mme. LaChance’s grade two and three French Immersion class is reading French books about Christmas. They are also learning new words on this topic. With these words they created riddles and they also wrote a Christmas story of their own. They have lots of imagination and creativity.

Mrs. Foley’s grade three and four class are writing letters in the great Canadian Mail Race and are very excited to hear back. They received two letters this week from St. Rita’s Catholic Elementary School in Brampton, Ontario.

Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class really enjoyed the moustache day! The grade five students are learning about maps in social studies. Both classes are going on a trip to the YMCA for health class. The grade six students had a great time at the skills challenge and can’t wait to do it again next year. They were also super excited that Anna MacKenzie was interviewed for Rogers Cable last week!
Ms. Jones’ junior high and level 1 class had a great time in St. John’s last weekend. The grade seven students had a math quiz on decimals, fractions, and percents. The grade eight students are learning how to calculate the volume of prisms.  

Coming Up

IHMS’s Christmas concert is coming up fast. It is on December  12.  All classes are very excited!

They are also very excited for Santa Claus parade and Santa’s visit to our school.
