Grade 5/6 News Article

Lion’s Roar

Santa’s Claus visited our school on Wednesday to have photos taken with all the classes. The students were very excited to see him again this year. 
The Intermediate Skills Challenge group presented their projects and demonstrated the skills they learned over the past two months. We held an assembly in the gym to recognize their provincial accomplishments and see the demonstrations. 
On Thursday we celebrated the Immaculate Conception at All Hallows with Mrs. Coleman and the prayer group. 
This week our classes and choirs have been busy preparing for the concert next week. Everyone is very excited. The teachers started decorating the gym on Sunday afternoon and this continued all week. Our concert is being held on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. 
Our school is participating in an allergy friendly food drive for Christmas. Classes were asked to bring in allergen specific food items throughout the week. The food drive officially ends today.
The student leadership council is continuing to collect for the Senior’s Stocking Drive and the Fire Fighters’ Toy Drive. Thank you to everyone for their generous donations. These drives will continue until December 16th.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to Jordan Park who participated in a team bowling provincial competition last weekend. His team won a silver medal. 
Class News
The junior kindergarten classes are practicing for the Christmas concert. They really enjoyed Santa’s visit on Wednesday. 
Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class enjoyed their visit with Santa on Wednesday. They were very excited to receive a letter from the North Pole this week. The students are continuing to work on numbers in math. 
Mme. Baugé’s Kindergarten French Immersion class is discovering many beautiful words related to Christmas such as “Joyeux Noël”, “Père Noël” , “cadeau”, and “sapin”.
Mrs. George’s grade one English class has started some Christmas projects this week. They are practicing hard for the Christmas concert on Tuesday. They were very excited that Mrs. Deckert came to their class to read a special Christmas story about Jesus. 
Mme. Ryan’s grade one French Immersion class and Mme. Howlett’s grade two French Immersion class worked together this week to write a Christmas story about a lost present. They drew illustrations to go with the story. The students were very excited to have Santa visit on Wednesday. All of the students were lucky enough to have their pictures taken with him!
Ms. Kane’s grade two English class is excited to be getting ready for the Christmas season. They are singing, decorating and making lots of arts and crafts for their friends and family. 

Mme. Moss’ grade three, four, five and six French Immersion class is working on a play about gingerbread man. The grade five and six students are going on a trip around the world to see how some French countries celebrate Christmas. 
Mrs. Bishop’s grade three class has designed Wanted Posters for three and four digit numbers in math. The students picked a number and represented it in various ways on their posters. They are excited to report that their garden is growing. 
Mrs. Passmoor’s grade four class used chalk and oil pastels to create the Northern Lights in art class. They investigated different kinds of rocks in science and watched a power point presentation on Samuel’s exploration of Boston in social studies. They got a new elf this week. His name is Chip Blizzard. 
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class enjoyed decorating their classroom and working on Christmas activities this week.  The students have begun data management units in math class. They are enjoying gym classes outside this week with all the fresh snow. 
Mr. Drew Nadon’s junior high to level three class participated in a skills showcase on Wednesday to show the other students in the school what they did in St.  John’s.  The Canadian History 1201 students are continuing to work on their World War One simulation activity. The grade 9, 10 and 12 students participated in a Go Championship in class last week. Class champions were Cameron Peddle, Rebekah Calbert and Ryan Miller.

Our annual Christmas concert is on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the concert can be purchased at the door.
