Grade 5/6 New's Article - Lion's Roar (22/9/18)

IHMS celebrated its 19th Birthday celebration on Wednesday with a celebration in the gym. All classes prepared a song, dance, or presentation to celebrate the event. After, everyone enjoyed a delicious slice of cake prepared by Colemans and a glass of milk.
On Thursday we hosted our curriculum night in our school gym for parents. Parents and teachers met to discuss curriculum outcomes for the upcoming year.
The school Terry Fox walk was postponed due to rain and wind on Monday. This will be re-scheduled for a later date.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to Luke Coleman who travelled last weekend with the Atlantic Boychoir to finish the recording of their debut CD.
Class News
The junior kindergarten classes are learning about the letter “b” and the number 2. They made crowns to celebrate the 19th birthday.
Mrs. Ryan’s Kindergarten English class is working hard on writing their alphabet letters and enjoying their new learning centres.
Mrs. George’s grade one English class had perfect scores on their first spelling tests this week. They are doing some fall writing and art activities. They would like to wish Lexi a happy birthday. The star of the week was Abigail. Happy fall, everyone!
Mme. Ryan’s grade two and three French Immersion class is learning about our province and where to find it on the map. They have also been discussing Canada and the cardinal directions. They have been talking about human development and how we change as we grow up.
Ms. Bursey’s grade two English class is learning about patterns. They are also learning about changes in community, water, and air. They are learning word wall words and writing strategies.
Mme. King’s grade four, five and six French Immersion class did a great job with their performance at the celebration and they had a lot of fun preparing it. They are preparing for their first spelling test which will take place on October 2nd. They are using their new vocab in sentences to illustrate their meaning . They are very creative!
Mrs. Williams’s grade three class is working on weekly spelling lists. They have begun their reading logs and learning about patterns in math. They enjoyed the anniversary celebration this week!
Ms. Hink’s grade four class is learning about sound and making their own instruments.
Mr. Ryley’s grade five class is excited to start their artifact dig in social studies.  In language arts they are having fun with word patterns and building words.
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade six class is learning about the scientific method. They will be working on writing up their own fun science experiment. The class enjoyed their visit with “Pepper”, Erica Kennedy’s hedgehog last week.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s grade seven and eight class has been working on expressions and equations. In social studies they have completed their Canadian Heritage assignments. The grade eight students created an advertising poster in language arts.
Mr. Hancock’s grade nine to level three class visited the Chrappa’s apple orchard on Friday. The Math 2201 class is learning about radicals. Math 3201 students are learning set theory.
Coming Up
The J.J. Curling Fun Run is Wednesday, September 25. Wednesday is also National Tree Day.

Friday, September 28 is the Western Regional Memorial Hospital Radiothon Day. We will host a medical theme day with an open donation for the radiothon.
