The grade 1 classes had a presentation called “Hug A Tree” with Christine Doucet, Sean Street and Dave Nelson. Thank you to Mme. Perez-Diaz for organizing the presentation.

Ms. Stacey Thomas has finished her work placement with our Junior Kindergarten program.

Our new basketball backboards have been installed. To celebrate we had a teacher vs. student basketball game on Thursday. Thank you to Mr. Taaffe, Mr. Whelan, Mr. King, Mr. McWhirter, and Mr. George for all their work installing the new equipment.

Mr. Brian Hancock visited our grade 5 and 6 science class this week to give a presentation on “Hazard Hamlet”. The class has recently started a new unit on electricity.

On Wednesday morning we had an in-school spelling bee to choose our students for the Winter Carnival Spelling Bee on February 23. Thank you to Mr. Hiscock and Mrs. McCarthy for organizing the bee and preparing the students. The students who will represent our school are: Gina Spencer and Clara Ryan in grade 4, Olivia Park and Alex Williams in grade 5, and Hannah Sparkes and Maria Reynolds in grade 6. Congratulations to all our wonderful spellers.

The grade 7 girls’ basketball team played an exhibition game against Presentation’s grade 7 team on Wednesday night. They played a great game.

Also on Wednesday we had a praise and worship service with Mrs. Coleman and the prayer group for St. Valentine’s Day.

The girls’ basketball team has the RNC tournament this weekend.
 

Stars of the Week

Congratulations to Beth Arsenault in Aero at the YBC over the weekend who had a high score of 71 in bowling and a high total of 139.
Congratulations to Mr. Taaffe and Mr. Graham who performed in the Off Broadway Player’s production of “Monty Python” last weekend.
Congratulations to Keely Brothers who competed in the Atlantic Classic gymnastics competition in PEI last weekend. Keely did a great job!

From The Classrooms
  
The junior kindergarten classes are celebrating the Chinese New Year and Ground Hog Day this week.

Mlle. Wight’s Kindergarten French Immersion class is learning about same and different in science. They are also doing Ground Hog Day activities.

Ms. Morrall’s Kindergarten English class is learning about the letter “g” in language. In social studies they are learning about family roles and how they change.

Ms. Dwyer’s Kindergarten English class is learning the letter “g” and playing sight word bingo.

Mme. Perez-Diaz’s grade one French Immersion class is  learning about capacity and how much liquid different containers can hold.

Mrs. George’s grade one English class is learning about groundhogs and doing some cool groundhog crafts. They had perfect spelling tests for three weeks in a row!


Ms. Park’s grade two class made snowmen bags on Tuesday. In math they are making graphs and making their own matter.

Ms. Bennett’s grade three and four class has started learning about multiplication. They played a game called “meteor math” and won all 6 levels of the game. The grade 4’s are preparing for the Winter Carnival Spelling Bee. They went skiing on Tuesday and had a relay race with two teams. The last skiers were Mr. Gillard and Ms. Bennett and there was a tie!

Mrs. McCarthy’s grade five and six class enjoyed the in-school spelling bee on Wednesday. This week they had a French quiz and a math test. In art class they are working on posters about what the future will look like.

Mr. Hancock’s junior high and level 1 class are started building their Popsicle stick bridges this week for National Geo-Science and Engineering Month. The grade 8-10 students are working on research papers. The grade 7 class is making movie posters in language arts.

Coming Up

Next week we are starting the Classroom Energy Diet Challenge.

The grade 5 and 6 class is having a bake sale on Tuesday.

The 100th day of school is February 13th!

Winter Carnival day is Monday, February 20th. School will be closed.
